I've been writing targeted copy for over 2 decades across all media. For the last 17 years, I've been a copywriter as well as a branding and marketing consultant. Articles I write are usually based on something scientific like my latest whim. Sports Med Website , AnneMoss.com and Webprepro Blog
Well, I have to say my contributions have been lean of late. I've been networking and working like a madman on crack which scarcely leaves time for random blogging. Where did all that random blogging time go?
Funny, but last year when the economy started to tank, the first thing people did was slash marketing budgets and let the marketing people go. They were wrong. And those who followed that trend are scrambling now. Unfortunately, because I would not wish that on anyone.
Oddly enough, there are some who remember previous recessions and are doing all their branding now. And while I really did not think it would start working quite this fast, it has. I took the opportunity at the end of last year to re-brand after 17 years and what a great decision that was.
I had Jim Lengyel, a local graphic designer work his magic on my logo, business card and letterhead, while I updated the look on my website which is almost there.
I have to tell you, I get calls alone because people LOVE my business card. People come up to me at events and parties and they remember me because of the zebra business card. It was the best money I ever spent in my life. I knew my previous look had gotten lame and so I just decided it needed a makeover to catch up to me.
I'm busy, too. Very busy. Because those who weren't doing much in the way of SEO or marketing are figuring out that those who are out there doing just that, are getting business. And these days it's more about survival of the fittest than raking in big bucks.
So if you are just surviving, look into how you can reinvent yourself or business to suit the times. I know a builder that is working with banks to prevent forclosures. He's working as a laiason to work out payment plans to keep people in their homes. That's a smart move and will keep him in business.
It's times like these that allow you to become more in touch with your entrepreneurial and creative side. And you'll learn things now that you will never forget. I'm talking about the good things. So work on keeping your spirits up and your eyes focused forward. Remember that making improvements and changes, even small ones, gets the economy moving again.
