In my civic lifetime I have seen my country thrust itself into war several times. Most often this has been because of a threat to ourselves or our allies, or a direct response to an attack inflicted upon our interests or peoples. I have never stopped to consider the casualty count, disproportionate as it may be.This is the nature of war.

I hear on the news, even FoxNews radio, the reporters now referring to the Palestinians as Gazans. They speak of a disproportionate response. Of an uneven casualty count. This is a significant departure from previous wars around the world, where free people cheered at the same sort of disproportionate counts.

I wonder if Gaza were California, and state sanctioned terrorists were launching rockets into neighboring states from California, would the world community react the same? Wouldn't we as free people cheer when we heard ground troops were going in to defend our security and freedom? Of course there would be civilian casualties, but we would
say that the people who elected these terrorists made that choice about their security at the ballot box, and they knew the terrorist would bring this terrible reaction to bear.

So why not Palestine? Why can it's citizenry continue to make poor decisions, continue to support, even sponsor terrorists, and then gain the sympathy of the world community when Israel responds. You might say, "Well, Hamas only has a few short range rockets." But let me ask you this; If ten invaders were on your doorstep, they had one gun and planned to pillage your home and kill your family, would four guns over their one be a fair response?

Aggressors should be expelled no matter the level of their poverty and incompetence. If Hamas were equally well equipped to the IDF the global conversation about this issue would be far different. By the same token, Israeli cities would likely be a pile of rubble. But of course, this would not be considered a disproportionate response by Hamas, because they would have attacked unprovoked with full force. And the world would stand quietly aside.
