ALI BABA'S: "OPEN !.... SOCIAL SECURITY SESAME"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In several occasions, commentators have stated that it takes three workers to pay the Social Security benefits of one retiree.- EXCUSE ME...??
That comment suggests that retirees are a load on the shoulders of today's work force.- This workers,
referred to by the commentators, are paying for their OWN future retirement benefits.- My generation already payed for ours, with hefty FICA payroll deductions during our working lives. It is OUR money.
We are just getting it back.
The comments were probably provoked by the alarming cry: "Social Security is going broke..!" Have to
fix it! This subject has been avoided by many politicians, mainly I believe, because there is a lot of
explaining to do. Facts tell us that when Congress creates a Trust Fund for an specific purpose, the funds that are supposed to go into it, are diverted to something else; and the Social Security TRUST fund has been raided time and time again, to fund general government programs; and YES, also for
earmarks and pork.
As a result,, instead of money, the Trust Fund has drawers full of IOU'S that the government does not intend to honor.
It is a no-brainer to solve the Social Security problem: Just leave the Trust Fund, frickin alone!
Stop the raiding.- And how about paying some of those IOU'S? Don't have much faith on that. Just
make it untouchable for anything but its purpose, and it will fix itself up.
An annual auditing by a private CPA's Firm, would certainly help to keep Ali Baba at bay.
Another reason we have, to insist for accountability and transparency to be a MUST in government.
