I'm a wanna be screen writer, stand-up comic, creative writer type. I see the humor in common every day things. Don't get me started on stories about my pets as I can go on non-stop. Click here: for Mary Yatti writings on the World Wide Web.
I live in Lakehills, Texas and posted a Found Young Chicken in the pet section of Craigslist a few days ago hoping to find the owner. I received two responses from people willing to adopt her. I had had her in my spare bathroom for the past few days because I was afraid my cats or dogs would eat her. That's no way for a chicken to live.
She got over her initial shyness and seemed to look forward to my visits to check on her. An Internet check said to feed her live insects. I opted out and gave her her organic mixed vegetables, fruit pieces, and grass. She ate the vegetables out of my hand! I was hooked. I wanted to keep her, but I didn’t think my cats and dogs would be good company for her. I wanted her to go to someone who knew how to raise chickens. Her last day with me, I fed her a few live pill bugs. Within a millisecond, the bugs disappeared from my hand. She must have good eyesight. I don’t know about taste though.
Yesterday afternoon I met her new owners from Craigslist. They have four children and raise chickens. The chicken seemed pretty tame and calm and didn’t squawk when I passed her to them. I told them that I have a female Border collie mix dog that rescued the chicken. Esther is fixed and wants to be a mama. This past year, she has rescued a three week old Siamese mix kitten, a two week old feral tabby kitten, a feral baby pig, and now a baby chick. The kittens are cats now. The pig is larger than she and thinks he’s a dog. It’s strange; Esther doesn’t want anything to do with puppies. She growls at the blue heeler puppies from my other dog.
The chick, the kittens, and the pig were unharmed by
Esther. Esther just wants to be a
momma. The chicken is with her new
family. The new owner thinks that her
breed is Dorking of the silver gray color. I am happy this all worked out for the best.
