Attention parents.  Whether you're a mom, dad, guardian, grandmother, uncle, sister... whatever: talk to your "kids!"

My mom works for an OB/Gyn and today told me the story of a patient: she's pregnant.  She's 13.  Her mom is 29 and has 4 other kids.  The 13-year old doesn't know who the father is and can't be bothered to find out.

And our tax dollars pay for her care.

I hear people going on and on about abortion, women's rights, reproductive health, self-esteem, abstinence education, blah blah blah.  If parents would take responsibility and talk to their kids, I think America would have a lesser problem.

I sometimes work with young woman who want to talk to their parents or children about sexuality but don't know how.  For some, the lack of conversation is for lack of education.  But don't let that hold you
back!  There are lots of resources out there!  And talking about sex doesn't have to be teaching anatomy and "where did the baby come from."  It can be as simple as "Susie, your dad and I believe in waiting until marriage to have sex.  We think it's a gift and this is why....  We'd like to share our beliefs with you because as our child, we hope you'll believe it too.  But we're open to your questions if you have any."  Parents - Speak Up!!!!

If you need resources, check www.4parents.gov.  It is a website based on abstinence-until-marriage beliefs, but there is a great resource in the bottom right hand corner called (cleverly) Parents: Speak Up that can be downloaded in .pdf format.  It includes facts for your kids from birth up, instilling healthy sexuality (which is different then sex!) throughout the life span.

Please parents, adults, trusted ears.... do it for our future generations!!!
