What happened to Suburbia?

I love the summer, Halloween, animals, chocolate and music. That is the basis of knowing me. I also like to write and travel a little.
I grew up in Suburbia. Outside of Philadelaphia where you didn't need to lock your doors and the kids played in the yard without wandering off. I still live there, well sort of.
Lately, so it seems, things have been off. Things have been stolen left and right in our little neighborhood. My family alone has had two, no three bikes stolen from backyards. My car was broken into last night along with at least 9 others the police tell me, and had an old N 64 stolen. My favorite game system. No it isn't worth much.
What would you do with one anyway? You can't sell it to any game store if you want to make 10 cents. But it meant a lot to me. My boyfriend went
to lengths to get that thing for me as a present. How many people know what its like to have something they love stolen away for no reason? Welcome to America, I guess.
But I will not stand for being walked on like an ant. If I have to stay up every night to watch from the deck what is going on around here I will do it.
It is not just my family either. Many families around here, my direct neighbors and others have had things stolen from their yards, patios, and cars. What is becoming of Suburbia? What can we do besides for lock everything that we can all of the time and look twice when we come home from work after 11pm at night?
Is this what its like to live in a country where some of our personal freedoms can take away others' freedom?
