The new CD from Coldplay came out today and for the first time in my life I got it the day it came out.  I figured I would try my hand at giving it a review.
There is a lot of mention of the dead it seems as I listened to the entire record.  At least more than I usually hear on one record.  But what would you expect when the title is  "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends?"  But the music is strong, as most Coldplay tracks are.  On their Myspace they call themselves hard- soft rock, I believe.  That fits them perfectly because they play hard on their soft melodies.
Their are 10 songs.  All are a little different so it does not seem like the same song rearranged over and over.  Their two released songs play back to back.  The last song is my favorite for musical arrangement alone.
    The CD
case is not plastic but heavy weight paperboard.  Not what I was expecting, but I appreciate the environmentally friendly impact.  The cover is a famous painting that I have seen before.  It gives them a depth that other bands do not always have.  Their whole booklet contains painterly brush stroke images.
Overall I liked the whole package of the new CD.  The songs were amazing.  The packaging was simple yet expressive.
The first time I heard the release of "Violet Hill" I was in the car on my way to school.  From the first note, I loved the song.  I immediately wanted to hear it again.  My mom even heard it a week later and told me about a song she heard only once that she loved.  I told her who it was and what it was called and to her surprise I was right.
This is one of those albums that you either fall in love with or never need nor want to hear again.
