What ever happened to horror movies?  I'm not saying that the ones that come out now are bad.  I would still pay over $8 a ticket to see them, but besides for all of the blood in a lot of them, they have lost some of their scare factor for me.
Maybe it's because Hollywood is about who has the biggest budget.  That has an effect on a lot of movies.  Or maybe it is because all of the good ideas have already been taken.  Again, I'm not saying that there are no good ideas left.  It's just that they are harder to find.
A lot of movies are getting remakes now.  All kinds of movies including The Incredible Hulk that I have heard was released  just a few years ago, and a different one is coming out again.  So many of the movies that I have heard about in the past four years or so that I thought were new I found out were remakes.
Yes movies that came out in black
and white might look better in color.  But I like the old time horror movies too.  Like the original House on Haunted Hill.  In black and white where the special effects are all done with puppets and hidden strings.  Something so sentimental about that.  I wasn't even around till after the invention of the music video.
But that doesn't matter.  Psychological thrillers are lovely.  But so many times I have figured out what would happen before it did.  I hate that.  When you spoil the movie for yourself.
So what happened to scary movies?  Did I just grow up and realize the the Freddy Kruegar that was standing on top of the Hallween shop in Wildwood was just an advertisement and not really coming to kill me?  I guess that could be part of it too.
But no matter what the reason that horror movies are getting less scary to me (by the way blood doesn't count) I can't wait until Friday the 13th for the newest additions to my mental movie library.
