After a little research, I found some useful ideas that will save you money. Since it doesn't seem like a whole lot of time is involved, I for one will do anything to keep my money in my pocket rather than give it to the Saudi's.

$18 billion dollars of American money go to these Foreign nations who hate us. I'd be willing to ration our gas if it meant less dependence on those haters. Actually, I'd be willing to give up my car and become a one car family to see the bogart, hating nations lose money.

Keep the money in America if at all possible. Here is a list of companies that import gas from Foreign nations:

Amoco---62,231,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco--144,332,000 barrels

Exxon /Mobil--- 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway-- 117,740,000 barrels

Shell--- 205,742,000 barrels

CITGO gas is imported from South America and controlled by a Dictator who hates Americans.

Here is a list of companies that do not import from foreign suppliers:

Sunoco.....0 barrels

Conoco.......0 barrels

Sinclair.....0 barrels

B P/Phillips......0 barrels

Hess......0 barrels

ARC0.........0 barrels

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. All service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline.
When it gets warmer, gasoline expands. Consequently, buying in the afternoon or in the evening causes your gallon to shrink, so to speak. Specific gravity and temperature are crucial in the petroleum business.

A one degree rise in temperature is enormous in the gasoline business. The service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps. When you're pumping gas, do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. Always pump in slow speed. This will minimize the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. By pumping on the fast rate, some of the gas liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor . Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less fuel for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is half empty. The more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unfortunately for us Petroleum centers have temperature compensation which makes every gallon is equal. Service stations aren't equipped with such money saving mechanisms.

Also, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, go to another station. The gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being deposited, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.
