I am a licensed vet tech and writer. I grew up along the Gulf Coast, but I relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, almost eleven years ago. I am happily married to the most wonderful man on the planet. We share our home with two chihuahuas and nine cats. http://www.nikkiwood.com
It is another stormy morning in Nashville. Downtown Atlanta was hit hard by a tornado overnight. What is up with all of this weird weather?
I grew up on the Gulf Coast with the threat of hurricanes. I'll take a hurricane over a tornado any day. For a hurricane, you've got time. Board up the house and leave or hunker down and take your chances. With a tornado, you are lucky to have time to even get to an interior room or into the bathtub.
Sirens and weather radios offer some time, but it's
still not enough to fully prepare for your own trip to Oz. Lately, it seems that I spend a great deal of time wondering if I'll wake up surrounded by the Munchkins looking at a pair of ruby red slippers sticking out from under my house.
For everyone, have a plan. Know where everyone is going to gather in the event of a possible tornado. Make sure you have a weather radio. Get flashlights and batteries. Most importantly, PAY ATTENTION! If there's a chance of severe weather, don't get caught off guard. It might cost you your life!
