Whilst Hypnotherapy is generally not the norm for treatment of alcoholism, some counselors for Alcoholics Anonymous have been taught, and successfully use it when working with clients.
Of course it is a much more detailed process than the following guideline states, however, I provide a basic outline of Aversion Therapy in this instance so you may be more able to make an informative decision once you are ready to face your addiction and seek the appropriate help.
Aversion Therapy:
Once a client has been induced to a Hypnotic state, suggestions are
given that he/she will experience an overwhelmingly disgusting smell and taste if alcohol is consumed.
The client will be taught to use auto suggestions in order to reinforce what has been learned from the therapist. Once sobriety has been maintained for some time, the auto suggestions may be used less frequently, but must still be used.
As an overall result, the client's desire for alcohol dimishes, and studies have shown a success rate of total abstinence - up to an astounding 70%.
