Jeff May
I have published short stories, poems, and articles in the US, UK, and Canada, and have won several short fiction awards. One of my stories has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. I rafted the Mississippi, searched for artifacts in Mexico, and climbed mountains from Alaska to Colombia. My novel Where the River Splits was published in 2008. I currently teach writing and fly-fishing in and around St. Louis, Missouri. My website is www.askwritefish.com

I’m not a political activist. Never have been. During the Vietnam era, I struggled with accepting my fate. If called, would I go? While I understood the war protesters, I couldn’t load flowers into guns. I was, after all, the son of a war hero. I would accept my fate and fight. Fortunately, my draft number was high (So occasionally was I.)

Trying to review Richard Burgin’s work can be daunting. The stories vary widely in content. The characters are complex. And the endings often leave you feeling uneasy. Bottom line, however, this is superb writing.
