Knives from SOG: What Can Happen When Blades Aren't Made by Committee

SOG Knives is a fairly young company in the knife-making business since they have only been around for twenty or so years. However, their short-lived, yet prosperous, history has led them to become one of the most innovative blade-making companies in operation today.

Company History

The story of the SOG Knives Company starts twenty years before it was created. At some point in the Vietnam era, an elite US military faction with an original name went looking for a newer knife. Called the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (or MACV-SOG for short), this group engineered and authorized the production of an "untraceable blade". This knife had to be rugged enough to hold up under the bleak environments of Vietnam, and still had to be plain and nondescript enough in order to be unnoticed concerning its maker and country of origin. Hence, the SOG Knife was born.

Spencer and Gloria Frazer applied this "untraceable" design as their motivation when the two created a new tactical knife corporation twenty years afterward in 1986. Ever since, SOG has been noted for creating top-notch knives.

However, there is so much more to SOG Knives than just the name of the corporation. Lead Designer and Founder Spencer Frazer is a renaissance man in each aspect of the phrase. His former backgrounds in sound engineering, toy design, and craftsmanship brought invaluable know-how to his present trade. When he was eventually able to pursue a knife design business, this collection of various industry know-how gave him a clear view about a longstanding industry. Since Frazer's designs are so creative and innovative, they have helped SOG Knives earn a reputation as a truly ground-breaking corporation.

The Knives Themselves

SOG Knives is probably best known for its lineup of Navy Seal blades. These include the Seal Team, the Seal Pup and "Elite" models of each one. SOG also makes a successful lineup of folding blades that include the popular "Twitch" and "Flash". SOG Knives also boasts multi-tools like the "Paratool" as well as the "Powerlock".

SOG Knives has lately begun to start advertising a set of blades referred to as "Fusion". These blades blend futuristic designs with modern engineering to ultimately get a unique product. Such creations include the "Muscle Car", the "Spirit" and the "Contractor".

More Info

SOG Knives' website is a really good place to get additional information about SOG. Another key resource is the Wikipedia page about SOG, although that one's rather sparse.
