Poorly researched. "I thought of how morally lenient the FCC has gotten in determining the ratings of television and film. " That's because the FCC doesn't determine the ratings of television and film! The MPAA (a private organization) determines film ratings, and the individual TV networks determine the parental guidelines for their TV shows.

If I am not sure about the content of a movie, I will wait for a review from a critic that covers violent, nudity and language content. Sure no one wants to see something really awful in a dark theater, because they are stuck there in front of a bunch of other people, but everyone has a right to speach. Maybe you should take more personal responsibility for yourself.

Another great resource that I use before I let my kids watch a movie - even PG - is www.pluggedinonline.com. Warning! It is overly conservative, but it breaks down every cus word and negative element in movies. It also tells the positive elements too. This allows me to make an educated decision about what my kids watch.

Censorship in any form is offensive to me, as it substitutes the morals of one for the morals of another. Take responsibility for your own hyper-sensitivity and do a little research before watching a film. (as the 2 prior commenters have mentioned.) Relying on the government or society to shield you from what you find offensive is lazy and ineffective.
I find it laughable that you find people shooting and killing each other to be perfectly acceptable in a western, but the language may be used during it to be offensive. I'm looking to the Obama administration to protect society from people like you that want to limit what can be seen by people capable of making their own choices. |
