Some things bug me. And some things really bug me. Women walking around with their handbags unsecured in a shopping cart rank among the latter. Recently I began to have one of those 'what-are-you-thinking moments' when I noticed the number of women walking around in department stores and grocery stores with, in many cases their fine designer bags, left for grabs. I observed that most of these people were not young naive women; but instead, much older women who I believe should be more responsible.  I've noticed in some cases these carts seemingly being shadowed; and found myself telling the presumed owner to watch their handbag. I'm often shocked at the flippant answers I get. One lady actually said she'd already had a handbag snatched in a similar scenario. I wanted to ask her, 'haven't you learned?' I know handbags are cumbersome and often weighty; but, most often ninety percent of what's contained inside aren't needed in the store. We don't have to listen to the news for very long to know how financially dire these times are. We're about to enter the season where people set
out to target the least suspecting. Some people, by their lackadaisical behavior seem to be asking to be victimized. If we think about it; most people only need a means to pay; a set of keys; and i.d. when shopping. Why people lug huge bags to the grocery store leaves me baffled. I know most carry handbags out of habit. But the keyword being carry needs to be thought through before leaving home. Once you get into the store and start shopping it is purely asking for trouble to leave your bag unattended while you walk a few feet away from it to peruse the freshest meat of the day. Enough said. I'll throw my hands up at this topic. Somehow I don't believe the people guilty of this vice have a clue how aggravating this behavior is to observe. It's almost as if they live in a pseudo-world where crime doesn't exist and everyone respects the property of others. That'd be a wonderful world to live in; but keeping it real; that's just not reality. Anyone whose had to cancel credit cards and checking accounts and replace keys; not to mention door locks, can serve as witness that no matter the inconvenience, safeguarding your purse is worth the hassle.
