Hello, this article will explain how to edit the text of
your 'Start' Button. It can be done in a few simple steps. I will warn you now
that if a mistake is made, it is incredibly hard to overcome. To start of,
please download the file in the link given. The download time can vary
depending on your internet speed. When download is complete, you will need to
extract all the files to a folder in a convenient location (I recommend your
desktop).
When you have done the above, you need to open the file ResHacker. You should
see a blank box with a toolbar across the top. Click the file menu and press
open. Scroll along until you see the file named explorer (located underneath ciaunwdm).
When the box has opened, click the tab names String Table, then number 37, and
finally 1033. Where it says “578,
‘start’” replace start with your text. When
complete, press the ‘Compile Script’ button. After all this is complete, save
the document as ‘yourtext.exe’ (NO GAPS ALLOWED)(PLAIN TEXT ONLY). You can then
close Resource Hacker.
After this, you need to click the start button, and click on
Run. In the box, type ‘regedit’. The Registry Editor will open. This is where
you need to concentrate. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIE, SOFTWARE, MICROSOFT,
WINDOWS NT, CURRENT VERSION, WINLOGON. Scroll down until you see the file ‘Shell’
and double click it. Where it says Value Data, type in your files name. This
should be ‘yourtext.exe’. We are nearly there now. If all has gone according to
plan, next time you log of or shutdown, your Start Button text will be whatever
you want it to be!
