This is a very good article! I wish you'd link i to your post _Get Paid to Live In Alaska_ as this story tells more of the whole story. I'm going on 30 years of life in Alaska. I got the first PFD, back when they based it on how many years one had lived in the state, before the law suit that opened it up to anyone who could stick it out a year. I used to have the attitude that, while I appreciated the money, I wished the plan would go away. Then I read Hammond's book, _Bushrat Governor_ and learned why we get it. Would that every state did this for their people--and would that we got dividends for the other citizen-owned resources: minerals, lumber, fish, even game taken by outside hunters. The PFD is a good shot in the arm, but I've never found it evened out the cost of living in Alaska.
