When I say standard issue diamond, I am referring to the colorless round, round brilliant cut, and the colorless princess cut, square modified brilliant cut. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not prejudiced against any shape or color of diamond. And while rounds and princess cuts are gorgeous when well cut, perhaps some of you want something out of the ordinary. Not everyone wants what everyone else has. It can get tiresome. And if you’re different from everyone else, why shouldn’t your ring be different too?
So the following are some funky, cool and unusual diamonds. Some are Novelty shapes, some have unusual color or fluorescence. All are NATURAL colored diamonds. None have been filled, nuked, plasma boiled, irradiated, inundated, dunked in kryptonite or otherwise treated for color. These are Nature’s gifts.
While very saturated colors like fancy vivid yellow diamonds, fancy intense pink diamonds and blue diamonds of any shape are scandalously expensive, there are other unusual diamonds that are surprisingly affordable. Contrast the colored ones with white side stones or a melee (i.e. halo setting) and the color really pops.
Cutters get creative with colored rough in an effort to get the most carat weight out of it. In other words, if the colored rough is an unusual shape, they have to make the final product an interesting shape. I love these. They are so cool!
