Robo-mojo
On the flip side of Wanted came the unpredictably wonderful Wall-e. At first, I wasn’t sure how a movie about robots falling in love would pan out, but this film stunned me at every level. I laughed, I cried, I cried, I laughed, and then I left.
The story is about a robot who has learned the beauty of humanity in the process of cleaning up their junk. Ironic. While he’s not working, he watches movies about love,
plays with toys, and talks to his pet roach. But Wall-e is missing something in his life; Wall-e needs love. It seems that his loneliness will never be lifted until a robot named Eve lands on Earth to detect any signs of life. What follows is an amazing story of one robot’s love taking him to unimaginable heights.
Everything in the film is magnificent. I know I sound like a nerd when I say this, but the 3D rendering is so good that I found myself thinking it was real much of the time. I don’t know how they pulled of the animation, but it is absolutely magical. The strange story of robot love may seem a little over-the-top, but it worked, and it worked very well. The best part of all is that it is actually a social critique that is blended so well into the story that it actually has a better affect than films that openly preach about the societal issues. I think everybody should go out and watch Wall-e as soon as possible. This film is not one to be missed.
