Lily was born in the back of a station wagon to traveling circus performers. They left her at a rest stop in Polk County when her fear of tigers made her a nuisance. A nice family adopted and tried to make her feel welcome, but sometimes, late at night, when the bullfrogs called, she wondered if she might be different. Not really, she sleeps like a rock, so she never heard the bullfrogs. She now plots world domination. And takes naps.

First of all, get a good picture of yourself. Get a couple. Do NOT take them yourself. If you don't have any friends who will take your picture for you, then maybe you should go make friends before you seek out true love.
Next, think about what you want. Are you looking for a quick hook-up? Be honest. If you're looking for friends, a long-time partner, or just looking around, you need to state that clearly. You may be desperate for a one night stand RIGHT NOW, but messaging people who are looking for long-term-relationships is a waste of your time and theirs. (On a side note, you may have better luck with casual hookups on craigslist.)
Now that you know what you want, create your profile. If you want a girl who shares your love of sports, dogs, and late-night comedy shows, make sure your pictures show you playing sports and your dog (for some reason, dog pictures go over well with the ladies). You aren't looking for a high-maintenance girl, so why would you select "Sex in the City" as your favorite show? Yes, it might drive traffic to your site, but it's not the kind of
traffic you want.
Add a little humor. Don't take yourself so seriously! Part of why our unfortunate friend trulov4u seems so pitiful in his online profile he comes across as desperate and boring. Love computers? Joke about how you're a total nerd. Hate sports? Mention that you're a complete klutz on the basketball court. This communicates something that's important to you, while also demonstrating an important quality: you have a sense of humor.
Last of all: Read over it! Make sure there aren't any typos in your personal profile. Try to avoid IM speak such as "I like 2 work out @ the gym." And update your profile. Keeping your profile current often moves you to the top of dating site lists. It also shows that you care about how you come across. If I check a guy's personal ad profile in July and his headline is "looking forward to going home for Christmas!" I figure he won't be online any time soon, and would be a waste of my time. Either that, or he really enjoys the holidays, and dreams about them all summer long.
I hope you meet "that specal ladie" who will "make ur dreams com tru." I just don't want to hear about it.
