Do you want a website that kicks butt? Or one that limps around in all its generic splendor? And you thought all you had to do was have a functioning site. If you are looking for that competitive edge, do what only 5% of the other website and blog owners are not doing. Learn how to find your target audience. Then get your website/blog to cater to them. Generic is out in case you missed the press release.

Your website and how it's positioned to a target market is the key to conversions. Marketing is the key to getting them there. It's that first part that people are missing.

How do you do inspire conversions? It's a process and it requires some noggin power and work. It's like riding a bike. You just don't forget but the process can be trial and error. It’s not a straightforward either.  But you'll keep getting better at it and one of the side effects is establishing search engine equity and customer loyalty.

The internet is crowded. All the press about making millions online has attracted millions.

I have a news flash for you, most of them have no clue what they're doing and most of them will never have the motivation to follow through with what it really takes to do well, much less decent.

To stand out, you need to apply the advertising principles that have worked for decades.  That is positioning to your target audience. Gone are the days when you could throw up site and have a vault of cash land effortlessly in your lap. You actually have to carve your position and your niche.

You think once people find out about this, they will start applying this strategy right and left? No way. That’s because most people are too lazy. All they want is that land-in-your-lap answer to nonstop wealth and they are too busy chasing rainbows to even notice they aren’t doing it right.

Why do you think half the ebooks out there have the word “lazy” in their title? You got it. The writers who write them know their market and they are catering to it. And I can promise you these writers are making far more that the lazy people who buy them.

I’ve done this target market thing over 20 years for clients ranging from local businesses to national brands. I’m not going to try and sell you on this approach if you’re on your maiden voyage on the internet. Because it’s one of those things you realize after you have a website that isn’t making enough to pay for popcorn at the movies. The more seasoned have figured out something is missing. You can learn it. But you have to want to. And that, my friends, is what separates the entrepreneurs from the rainbow chasers.
