I like simplicity. I write about simple things like easy (simple) time management and customer service without slogans, just good sense. I enjoy auto racing, opera, jazz, puppies, and sunsets. There's nothing better than a glass of wine watching a brilliant sunset listening to Oscar Peterson's piano. Life is good.

Here's a one-word way to find more time and get rid of the "stuff" that clogs your days and nights. Yes, you can do it starting in 10 minutes.
Like most people, you probably do the things you consider URGENT - things that have to be done now or the opportunity vanishes. I used to. Not now. Saying that something is urgent has nothing to with when it has to be done. Urgent, by itself is meaningless. What is meaningful is the word IMPORTANT. This is your one-word key to taking charge of your time. If you have a list of 10 things demanding to be done, but only one of them is IMPORTANT, that's the one you do first to the exclusion
The question I hear the most is, "What do I do first if I have more than one IMPORTANT item on my to-do list?" Here's where the other word comes in. "Urgent" means "Do it now, if not sooner." If something is urgent, but not important, there is no reason to do it now or ahead of any IMPORTANT tasks, but if something is IMPORTANT and URGENT that task moves to the head of the line. If you have two IMPORTANT and URGENT items, on your list, do them in the order their time limit demands. If one needs to be done today and and the other can wait until tomorrow, the choice is clear. When you have taken care of all the IMPORTANT and URGENT tasks, go on to the IMPORTANT tasks left on your list.
The IMPORTANT task are the ones to accomplish. If they are also URGENT, do them first. Remember, if something is only URGENT, it isn't IMPORTANT so don't panic. It's been 10 minutes. Start living a stress-free life doing what's IMPORTANT and ignoring the URGENT "stuff." It's been 10 minutes.
