For Gilbert Arenas to talk so much bunk before the game against the Celtics he sure didn't play like a trash-talker.  He guarantees victory and flat-out tells Boston that they won't win Friday night's game.  Yet, only goes 5 for 20 from the field to score 21 points on the night.  Whereas, the Celtics didn't take kindly to those words and proceeded to lay a beatdown to Gilbert and the Wizards that has to be taken as a prediction of things to come for the remainder of the season.

Gilbert Arenas must be double-jointed because both of his feet are in his mouth.
After earlier declarations in the week that Boston simply would not win their home-opener agaist his Wizards, Gilbert is enjoying a full-size helping of foot after an undeniable beatdown Friday night.

The celtics had made many off-season trades to acquire talented veterans Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to assist Paul Pierce in his pursuit of a deep playoff run in the 2007-'08 season.  Many people had high hopes for the new "Big Three."  But no one thought that it would they would come out on opening night they way they did.  There was a lot of hype and questions behind the new Celtics.  The main question on many people's minds was how would they work together and would there be enough shots on the floor for all of them to be productive.  Allen, being no stranger to shooting from behind the arc, holds the record for most 3-point attempts held by one player, Garnett being the leading scorer for the Timberwolves for years, and Pierce being the main source of excitement for the Celtics since he came to town.  They actually came together not only on the offensive side of the ball, but were equally as tenacious on the defensive side as well.

It was trully a sight to see.  The game was televised live and the way the Celtics played Friday was nothing like I had seen before.  I haven't seen that much passion in a home-opener by a team that had such a horrible season the year before in my life.  They meshed together seamlessly that the game almost got to a point where it couldn't even be watched anymore.  Gilbert Arenas was relatively quiet most of the night.  Which was a shock because when a player goes out on a limb in a public and guarantees victory they are supposed to go out and play the game of their life.  But it was hard for him to play that well when he was on lockdown offensively for most of the night.  Caron Butler didn't help too much, either.  Arenas scored 21 points with Caron chiming in with 18 pionts just as quietly.

At one emotional point in the game Pierce and Allen were on the Bench with about 2:30 left to play.  After receiving a standing ovation from the crowd, they rose one finger in the air to the crowd to symbolize that this is the one.  This is a fresh start.  This is a new team.  They are going to bring that winning tradition back to Boson Garden.  Garnett soon left the game after that to be welcomed by a standing ovation and high-fives from his teammates.  There is a lot of love in Boston, as players from the Patriots and the Red Sox were in attendance to support their fellow athletes.

It look like the Red Sox and the Patriots aren't the only winning teams in Boston.  It looks like the big three may be bigger than just a nickname for the Celtics' main players.  There may be a big three in three different sports coming from one city declaring to the world that it's about time.  The Patriots are seeking to extend their perfect season this year and grasp their fourth championship in seven years, while the Red Sox just won the World Series last week.

Its looking like it's going to be a good time for Boston this year, not just the Celtics.

That's my word.  Thanks for reading.
